Colt 601

I decided to rework the presentation for this project, as I was not happy with my previous renders.

Colt bought the manufacturing rights for the AR-15 from ArmaLite in 1959, and in 1960 offered the first Colt AR-15 under the name model 601. It was chambered in 5.56 Nato and could be equipped with an M8 Bayonet and M29 Rifle Grenade.
The Colt 601 was the first AR-15 platform rifle in american military service, as it was being tested by the Air Force. After the original run, several changes were made, which ultimately lead to the M16 we know today.
The most obvious differences to the more modern AR-15 variants is the missing forward assist, the triangular charging handle, missing fencing around the mag release, and the iconic "waffle" magazine.
